"A special way of caring"

Bereavement Support
Bereavement support is offered to all families who have had someone close to them die either in the hospice, attended day therapy, had visits from the hospice at home team or MacMillan nurses.
The service is staffed by qualified nurses and trained volunteers. Support offered is either in:
Time of Reflection Service.
The time of reflection services are held every month. An invitation is extended to the key family member, partner or friend. Other family members and friends are also welcome.
The names of the remembered are read at each service. Members of the hospice staff will be present and will be available for a chat and refreshments afterwards.
Spiritual Support.
"Spiritual" In a hospice context means all those things that give our lives particular meaning and may or may not include religion or belief in God. We therefore offer the same access to spritual care to all patients and their visitors regardless of faith or life stance.
We seek to affirm individual identity and worth and support people in exploring the "Why" questions, issues, hopes and fears around life and death that people needing palliative care are often faced with. This can be explored from a religious or non-religious point of view completely dependent on personal needs and expressed values.
We recognise for many people religious support will be an essential element of their spiritual care and one-to-one communion, personal prayer pastoral support and group services in the hospice chapel conducted by our in-house ecumenical chaplain are offered to all without restriction. We also have access to support or adherents of other faiths and belief systems.
Spiritual support is offered, but never forced and it is always about the patient/carer's agenda and not that of the chaplain or other staff offering it.
